Girl, 12, seriously hurt after being struck by car

A 12-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being struck by a suspected drug driver, police have said.

She was taken to hospital after being hit by a grey Volkswagen Golf on Plungington Road in Preston at about 15:30 BST on Monday, Lancashire Police said.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving. He is currently in custody after stopping at the scene of the collision, a force spokesperson added.

Police have appealed for any witnesses, especially those who stopped and assisted the girl at the scene, to get in touch.
