A 43-year-old woman found dead in her flat has been described by her family as a "woman of strength and resilience".

A murder investigation was launched after the body of Mandy Riley was discovered at the property in Ashe Place in Normanton on 5 June, Derbyshire Police said.

Thomas Turner, 63, of no fixed address, has been charged with her murder and has been remanded in custody, the force added.

Mr Turner is due to appear at Derby Crown Court on 29 September for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

In a statement released by police on Monday, Ms Riley's family said: "Life never gave her an easy path, and she faced many challenges that would have broken most people.

"Yet no matter what she went through, she remained strong and carried herself with courage that inspired those around her.

"She was always welcoming, opening her heart and home to others, and no matter how busy she was, she always made time for the people she cared about. She loved her family and had a lot of good friends.

"Her kindness and generosity touched many lives even when she was struggling herself."

Ms Riley's family said that she was "loved beyond words" and "missed beyond measure".

The family added: "She may be gone from this world, but she will never be forgotten. Her strength, warmth, and love live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know her."
