A "repeat offender" has been jailed for nine months for carrying a knife and a class B drug in public.

Keiran Evers, of no fixed abode, was caught carrying a large kitchen knife and herbal cannabis on Edgeware Road, Swindon, at 1:50 GMT on 19 December, Wiltshire Police said.

The 28-year-old was seen acting suspiciously by Swindon Borough Council CCTV operators before being arrested.

He was sentenced on 20 December at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

Evers was caught by officers who were out on patrols as part of Wiltshire Police's annual Operation Dasher, which aims to keep shoppers and businesses safe during the festive period.

PC Paul Bezzant said: "Evers is a repeat offender for carrying weapons and I'm pleased he will now spend time behind bars for it.

"There can be no place in society for carrying knives and other bladed articles - the consequences of doing so, as we have sadly seen, can be lifelong."
