Seafront regeneration scheme set to begin

A project to regenerate the seafront of a West Sussex town is set to begin.
Improvement work to the esplanade in Bognor Regis will start on Monday with a view to "help make it a top destination for residents and visitors".
West Sussex County Council said it had allocated £1.3m to the scheme which will extend from Lennox Street to Clarence Road.
A spokesperson says the initiative is "part of a larger vision offering a modern and inviting seafront that balances functionality with public enjoyment".
The Bognor Regis Esplanade Public Realm Improvement project includes new pedestrian crossings, a walkway connecting on-street parking with the sea wall, and traffic-calming measures.
A key feature is the reduction of the speed limit to 20mph.
Steve Waight, cabinet member for support services and economic development, said: “It builds on other recent local developments, such as the recently completed Place St Maur improvement scheme, and planned enhancements at Alexandra Theatre and the Arcade.”
Construction is expected to finish by April 2025.
