North Devon fire crews had a "busy night" as they battled against a moorland fire on Holdstone Down, near Combe Martin.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called out at about 21:00 GMT on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the service said seven fire engines, various specialist appliances and supporting officers were at the scene.

Despite "limited water supplies" the blaze was eventually brought under control at about 02:00 on Wednesday, they said.

The spokesperson also advised people to "take care on the moors" at this time, adding: "They are particularly vulnerable after a relatively dry winter."
