A driver has been arrested after a crash that saw a tractor plough straight into two terraced homes, causing major damage.

The agricultural vehicle, which was carrying a large red tanker, smashed into the houses on the A51 Vicars Cross Road in Chester on Tuesday after a crash involving a Mercedes.

Those inside the homes were found unharmed, while the two men driving the two vehicles have since been released from hospital, a Cheshire Police spokesman said

The Mercedes driver, a 52-year-old man from Boughton, has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs, he added.

Officers were called to the crash near to the junction of Pearl Lane at about 06:36 BST.

Police have urged witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.
