Boy, 17, arrested after large knife and drugs seized

A teenage boy has been arrested after police received reports of a young man carrying a machete.
Essex Police were alerted to an incident in Rainsford Road, Chelmsford shortly after 22:00 on Friday 10 August.
They found a large knife and quantity of drugs in a car boot.
A 17-year-old from Chelmsford was arrested and bailed on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and possessing drugs with intent to supply.
Officers were sent to the scene and subsequently witnessed a man getting into a car after placing items in the boot.
That car was then stopped and searched by police, who discovered the knife and what was believed to be Class A and B drugs.
Police said the items will be destroyed.
Det Ch Insp Nathan Hutchinson said: “The speed at which officers in Chelmsford were able to identify a suspect meant that any threat posed was quickly and effectively stopped.
“Tackling knife crime and its devastating impact is priority for us – as well as our partners and we work determinedly to bring perpetrators of it to justice.”
