Arrested man bailed after serious assault

A man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an assault in the early hours of Friday has been bailed as investigations continue.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Castle Street in Taunton by the ambulance service shortly after 06:35 BST on Friday.

The victim, a man in his mid-30s, was taken to hospital with injuries initially thought to be life-threatening, but was later discharged.

A man, also aged in his mid-30s and believed to be known to the victim, was later arrested but has since been released on police bail.

Anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is being encouraged to contact the force.
