Appeal for driver after man hit by car dies

Police investigating the death of a pedestrian have released a man who they arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Lancashire Police is now trying to track down the driver and vehicle that hit a man in his 70s on Plymouth Road, Blackpool, shortly before 20:00 GMT on Monday.

The force said it was working to formally identify the victim, believed to be in his 70s, so they can contact his next of kin.

No further action will be taken against the 43-year-old man who was arrested, it added, before appealing for the driver or anyone who knew them "to do the right thing" and come forward.

Police urged any witnesses who saw the pedestrian either before or after the crash, at the junction with Mowbray Drive, to contact them, and said they were also looking for dashcam or CCTV footage.

The man who died was described as of a slim build, wearing glasses a red and black jacket and blue trousers.
