Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's planning committee turned down the proposals

Plans for up to 126 homes in Market Bosworth have been turned down as the development would cause "permanent harm" to the character of the area, a council decision notice said.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's planning committee refused an outline planning application to build houses on land north of Station Road.

According to planning documents, the proposed development would have contained 50 affordable homes, play areas and a community orchard.

A report prepared for the planning committee said the plans had received 42 objections.

Planning documents submitted by the applicant said the proposed development would provide "highly sustainable residential development" and boost the supply of housing in the area.

However, a decision notice said: "The proposal represents new development in the designated open countryside that results in very significant permanent harm to the character of the site."
