Lines reopened after major rail disruption

A points failure at Earlestown has caused major disruption, National Rail said

Rail passengers have experienced major disruption due to a points failure.
The incident affected services between Liverpool Lime Street, Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester.
A National Rail spokesperson said a points failure at Earlestown meant that some lines had been closed but they had now reopened, with delays cleared.
They had warned that trains running between Liverpool Lime Street / Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester might have to be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.
Delays cleared at around 10:25 BST on Wednesday.
Northern services between Chester and Leeds, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport, Chester / Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria were also affected, along with TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle / Stalybridge.
Transport for Wales services between Chester / Holyhead / Llandudno and Manchester Airport were also affected.
