Hundreds of 1960s comic books are set to be auctioned later this month, with an estimated total value of up to £7,000.

The line-up is made up mostly of Marvel comics and is due to go under the hammer in Lichfield, Staffordshire, on 29 September.

Superheroes featured include Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, X-Men, the Avengers, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Doctor Strange, Daredevil and Thor.

There are more than 50 lots - with highlights including the Fantastic Four #48, #49 and #50, which feature the first appearances of the Silver Surfer and Galactus, valued at between £400 and £600.

There is also the Silver Surfer #1 – the first solo Silver Surfer comic, which features the character's origin story – estimated to be worth £200-£300, and which the new 2025 reboot, Fantastic Four: First Steps, is based on.

The Amazing Spider-Man #50 – featuring the first appearance of the Kingpin – which could fetch £200-£250 is also among the items up for auction.

"From the moment our specialist saw the list of titles, we knew this collection was going to be remarkable," a spokesperson for Richard Winterton Auctioneers said.

"When the comics were consigned, we could see it was an outstanding archive which will doubtless be of great interest to collectors."

They were bought by a collector from Tamworth, a man who had carefully stored them in a loft for many years, the auctioneers said.

The comics will go under the hammer at The Lichfield Auction Centre from 09:00 BST on 29 September, with in-person viewing on 26 September between 10:00 and 16:00.
