A man who asked a stranger for a lift and then robbed him in a violent attack has been jailed.

Simon Kubalik, 20, stole the victim's wallet and phone after punching him repeatedly when the car arrived in St Alban Road, Leeds.

The man was left with multiple facial fractures which required surgery following the robbery on 25 April, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Kubalik, of Dulverton Place in Beeston, was sentenced to six years in prison at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday and fined £228.

The court heard Kubalik was with a woman when he approached the victim, who was sat in his car in Harehills Lane, and asked if he would give them a lift to St Alban Road.

The man agreed but when they arrived Kubalik attacked him and made off with his belongings.

Following CCTV enquiries, he was arrested and pleaded guilty to robbery at Leeds Crown Court in October.

Det Con Joe Kendrew, of Leeds District Crime Team, said: “This attack was so violent that it left his victim with multiple facial fractures which required several operations.

“I hope this outcome will be of some comfort to him as he continues his recovery.”
