A museum on the site of a Grade II-listed manor house in Kent is hosting an '80s-themed disco night in one of its galleries.

Maidstone Museum said the event for over-18s will be held on the evening of Saturday 23 November.

The disco follows on from the venue's I Grew Up in the '80s exhibition, described by the museum as a "lovingly-curated time capsule showcasing the youthful exuberance of the much-loved decade".

A spokesperson said it was "time to dig out your rah-rah skirts, dust off your fluorescent leggings, backcomb that hair and get footloose for some banging tunes".

Maidstone Museum is situated on the site of a Grade II-listed Elizabethan manor house and opened to the public in 1858.

Councillor Stephen Thompson, from Maidstone Borough Council, said: "We are very proud to be able to offer our residents and visitors such a range of things to see and do when they come to the county town of Kent and this is another great example of what we do.”

In February Canterbury Cathedral defended its decision to host a silent disco in its nave, which was attended by more than 3,000 people over two days.
