A Perth and Kinross primary school will remain closed on Friday after a suspected chemical leak.

Staff and pupils at Crieff Primary School were evacuated after an adult working on the premises was taken unwell.

Police Scotland said officers were called to the school in Broich Road at about 11:30 and the building was cleared as a precaution.

Altogether 11 adults were taken to hospital but police have not yet found a spillage or leak that contributed to the illness.

A deep clean will take place over the weekend and the school is expected to reopen on Monday.

Most of the adults taken to hospital have been discharged following a clinical assessment.

An NHS Tayside spokeswoman said none of the patients had any "immediate medical concerns".

But testing will continue in order to identify the cause of their symptoms.

A police cordon blocked off entry to the school while emergency services investigated. Officers said inquiries into the incident were continuing.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed four ambulances and three special operation response teams were dispatched.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised two appliances and one specialist appliance to the scene and they left the scene shortly after 18:30.

Sheena Devlin, children and families spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council, said: “The wellbeing of our children and our staff is our priority and so we have decided to keep the school closed on Friday as a precautionary measure.

“We understand the concern this incident will have caused but would like to reassure parents, carers and pupils that we are working closely with our partners in NHS Tayside and Scottish Fire and Rescue to understand why some staff felt unwell.”
