More than 100 boats are due to pass through St Aubin's Bay later to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

The St Helier Yacht Club said the grand flotilla would sail close to the shoreline from 18:30 BST from St Aubin's fort via West Park before heading to St Helier Harbour.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat is due to lead the flotilla, which includes boats from the yacht club, the Jersey Rowing Club, the fishing community, Ports of Jersey and emergency services.

Jeff Speller, commodore of the club, said the flotilla would recognise the "outstanding volunteer service provided by the crews and support staff in Jersey".

He said: "This will be a perfect opportunity for members of the public in addition to participating boat owners and the maritime community at large to recognise the excellent voluntary service provided by the RNLI, both in Jersey and throughout the British Isles.

"The club has been delighted to take the lead in organising this event, which we hope will help to raise the profile of the organisation on the occasion of its 200 year anniversary and lead to continued support including for future fundraising activities."
