A driver was arrested after leaving his seriously injured passenger in his car following a crash in Doncaster, police have said.

A Ford Mondeo and a grey BMW collided at the junction of Queen Mary's Road and Grange Lane in New Rossington at about 20:50 BST on 7 August.

The 37-year-old driver of the Ford Mondeo left the scene and was later located by officers, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

He was arrested on suspicion of being over the drug and alcohol limit and has since been bailed pending further inquiries. His passenger remained in a serious condition in hospital on Thursday, police said.

The force has asked witnesses or anyone with video footage of the moments before the crash to come forward.
