The care home will sit on part of the former Maxell site

Plans to turn part of the former Maxell factory site in Telford into a care home have been approved.

The 78-bed home will be built alongside hundreds of homes already approved for other parts of the site in Apley.

Maxell vacated the site nearly 10 years ago as it moved from producing cassettes into other plastics.

The factory was surrounded by acres of grassland, much of which has now been developed.

The care home will be built near the Shawbirch roundabout, at the junction of Whitchurch Drive and Queensway.

The applicant, UV Care Telford, said that the development would extend the availability of suitable care facilities in the area.
