A mountain rescue volunteer's minivan was smashed into while he was on a training course by someone who then made off.

The volunteer had parked his blue Ford Tourneo Connect in Lakeside Car Park, next to the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) base, when it was seriously damaged on Sunday between 13:30 and 17:30 GMT.

KMRT said it was "no small impact", the tailgate had several large dents and the rear windscreen had been "completely smashed", adding the perpetrator had "made off without stopping or leaving a note".

Cumbria Police said it had received a report of damage and urged anyone with dashcam footage or information to get in touch.
