A long stretch of a major road was closed for more than eight hours after a serious crash, National Highways has said.

At one point seven miles (11km) of the A34 were closed northbound between the A44 at the Peartree Interchange, near Oxford, and the M40 at Junction 9, near Bicester.

The road was initially closed at the Weston-on-the-Green turning at about 06:00 BST before being widened. Diversions are in place, external.

Emergency services were at the scene, with the road having to remain shut as police investigations took place.

"We'd like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we dealt with this incident," Thames Valley Police said.
