Police have uncovered a cannabis factory containing nearly 1,000 plants during a morning raid.

Officers searched a property on Middlegate in Penrith, Cumbria, at about 07:00 BST.

More than 950 plants were discovered growing there, amounting to an estimated street value of over £500,000, police said.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and remains in custody for questioning.

Insp Mo Bibby, from the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team, urged people to come forward with information about drug supply in the area, promising "action will be taken".
