Children's home plan approved despite objections

A children's home has been approved in Leicestershire despite a council's reservations.
The application to change the use of a residential property in Stonehurst Road, Braunstone Town, was given the green light by Blaby District Council on 11 November.
Applicant Mr A Mistry sought permission to use the house to cater for the care of up to three children aged six to 14.
During the application stage, 18 objections were raised, including Braunstone Town Council, which recommended that approval should not be given until details regarding rotas and parking had been supplied.
In particular, the town council asked how rotas would be worked out to ensure minimal disruption to the community.
The town council also said it wanted more detail on the number and frequency of visits to and from the home, and what the turnover of staff would be, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Leicestershire County Council’s Local Highway Authority (LHA) said the impact of the development on nearby road safety “would not be unacceptable”.
While noting that three off-street car parking spaces were proposed, the LHA said that the home was close to bus stops with frequent services to Leicester and Fosse Park.
The LHA added that people already parked in the street in the area, and that there had been no recorded collisions in which people had been injured along Stonehurst Road in the latest five-year period.
The planning application said there would be two cars parked in the driveway at any one time, and that handover of staff and rotas would be worked out for minimal disruption to the community, and continuity for the children in the home’s care.
