Jersey Police are appealing for information in relation to an incident when a man spat at a police officer.

The male, who was described as wearing a black jacket, a blue hooded top and riding a push/e-scooter, asked the officer to wind down their window and then spat at them.

The incident happened at about 16:55 GMT on Wednesday 11 December when the officer was driving a marked patrol vehicle along St Aubin's Road, near the Pet Cabin heading towards Cheapside.

Chief Officer Robin Smith said the force maintained a "strict zero-tolerance policy towards any assaults on our staff" and the force issued body worn footage showing a person they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

'Deeply concerning'

He said: "I'm sure all islanders will share my disgust that one of our patrolling officers should stop her police car to offer assistance only to be spat on.

"The rise in spitting incidents against our officers is deeply concerning - such acts are not only highly disrespectful but also pose significant health risks."

The police asked anyone who recognised the man to contact and to aid its investigation, and added it would welcome the man himself to come forward.

It added that spitting incidents impacted officers personally as they would have to undergo health assessments in A&E for infectious diseases and they would then have to attend follow up appointments.
