Low-income families given air fryers to cut costs

North Lincolnshire Council is handing out the free air fryers to help families reduce energy costs

Families on low income are to be given free air fryers to help them reduce energy costs and eat more healthily, a council has said.

North Lincolnshire Council is already running a scheme in which more than 6,000 of the appliances are being handed out to pensioners.

The Conservative-run authority said those eligible would be families with children or people with disabilities who have attended one of the council's cookery demonstrations, which are being held in March.

A spokesperson said: "This initiative is to help those most in need, to enable them to reduce energy costs and to eat more healthily on a low budget."

Two-hour demonstrations showing people how to make meals using the air fryer will be held at various places in the community throughout March.

It has been funded by the government's Household Support Fund and the council said similar sessions held last year proved "very popular".
