Police have arrested a man who had absconded from prison.

A search had been underway since 19 July after Gary Rootham, 42, was discovered to be on the run from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire.

Rootham is serving a prison sentence for driving, robbery and burglary offences, said police.

He was arrested overnight by officers in the Thames Valley Police area. Avon and Somerset Police thanked everyone who had helped in the search.
