A rare car with an estimated value of up to £750,000 is due to go under the hammer.

The 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster is one of only 209 alloy-block, disc brake 300SL Roadsters and will be auctioned at Kelham Hall in Nottinghamshire, H&H Classics said.

The classic vehicle, alongside dozens of other collector and performance motorcars as well as motorcycles, are being offered for sale on Wednesday 10 September.

Lucas Gomersall, from H&H Classics, said the Mercedes had formed the centrepiece of a private collection that once totalled more than 100 cars, which included a 300SL Gullwing.

The classic car, with an estimated price of between £650,000 and £750,000, was supplied new to America but had been in Europe and the UK since 1995, H&H Classics added.

It was subjected to an extensive bare metal bodywork restoration in 1996, and featured on historic rallies and tours.

The car will be available for viewing on 9 September ahead of the sale.

Mr Gomersall added: "The beautiful surroundings of Kelham Hall provide the perfect setting for the auction of a celebrated automotive work of art.

"It's sure to be a special event which will have other desirable classic, collectable and performance motorcars going under the hammer."
