Action considered against 'excessive' road noise

A petition asking Mole Valley District Council to take action against loud motorbikes has gained more than 1,300 signatures

A council in Surrey is asking the public what steps it should take after "reports of vehicles making excessive noise" on the A24.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has started a seven-week consultation on antisocial behaviour on the road and in Mickleham and Westhumble villages.
More than 1,300 people have signed a petition calling for the local authority to introduce a public space protection order (PSPO) - a tool used to tackle antisocial behaviour - in Mickleham due to nuisance road noise.
The council said action taken "could include" such an order.
MVDC cabinet member for services and security Caroline Joseph said "no decisions have yet been made" and it was "essential that we first listen to the views from as wide a range of voices as possible".
Mickleham Parish Council previously said motorcyclists were causing "intolerable" noise levels in the village and impacting residents' quality of life.
In addition to a PSPO, the petition, which the parish council started, called for a three-month trial of an "acoustic camera".
Joseph said: "We require answers to questions that will help us gauge the impact of these reported issues on those who live, work and use the roads in this particular area of the district."
The survey, on the district council's website, external, will be open until 31 October.
