Detectives have revealed that a scammer posed as a traffic warden in an attempt to steal bank cards.

Hertfordshire Police said on Thursday a woman was parked on Hillfield Road, Hemel Hempstead, when a man wearing a high vis jacket got into her car and threatened to issue a fine unless she gave him her card.

The man left the car with the card and later the woman was contacted by her bank after they blocked a withdrawal of £4,000.

Police described the man as in his 40s, six feet tall, black and clean shaven.

Police have warned drivers to be cautious and keep their vehicles locked.

It reminded people not to hand cash or bank cards to officials at the roadside and insist on a penalty notice in the post.
