A woman had to pay hundreds of pounds after she misused her daughter's disabled badge instead of paying £2 to park her car.

Nasharie Oluwa, 35, of Ethelred Lane, in Great Denham, Bedfordshire, parked her Mercedes at Greyfriars Car Park with a Blue Badge displayed on 26 May 2023.

Bedford Borough Council said the badge belonged to the driver’s six-year-old daughter, who was not present at the time.

Mrs Oluwa wrote to Luton Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to one offence of misusing a Blue Badge and she was fined £217, told to pay £675 in costs and a victim surcharge of £87.

'Now has a criminal record'

When she was first questioned, Mrs Oluwa said her daughter was with her, but inquiries revealed she was at school.

She then told the council she had used the Blue Badge as she had no money to pay for parking.

A council spokesperson said: "By misusing the Blue Badge on this occasion, to avoid paying for £2 parking, Mrs Oluwa now has a criminal record and has been ordered to pay £979."
