Alderney's most senior politician resigns

Alderney's most senior politician has resigned from the island's States and blamed "political infighting" for his stepping down.
Nigel Vooght was the chair of the Policy and Finance Committee (P&F) after being elected to the role in January 2023.
In his letter of resignation he also took aim at President of the States of Alderney, William Tate, and said his relationship with him had "irreparably broken down".
Tate told the BBC he wouldn't comment.
Vooght, a former PwC chief, said it was with "sadness" he was standing down.
He was elected to Alderney's States in 2022, alongside Steve Roberts, Bruce Woodhead and Bill Abel in an election where no votes were cast, as there were only four candidates for five seats.
Last month, a contested general election saw Edward Hill, Iain Macfarlane, Alex Snowdon, Kevin Gentle and Stuart Clark elected to the States of Alderney.
'Untenable'
In his letter, which has been circulated to the media by the States of Alderney, he said his position had become "untenable".
He wrote: "I am immensely disappointed at the lack of support in some quarters for my efforts in tandem with our hard-working Civil Service.
"Unfortunately, my relationship with the President has also broken down in recent weeks.
"When P&F makes a unanimous decision, the President's role is to facilitate putting that item on the billet where applicable, not to oppose it or gerrymander a situation more to his liking."
