Kent Police have concluded an investigation into a reported rape in Chatham.

Officers received a report on Sunday that a teenage girl had been raped while walking through Luton Recreation Ground near Ash Tree Lane.

However, after they reviewed CCTV, spoke to witnesses and used forensics, investigators said the incident "did not take place as reported".

Police say they are no longer seeking to identify anyone.

Det Insp Adam Marshall said the safety of women and girls was of "paramount importance".

He said Kent Police would always "respond positively" to incidents and carry out "detailed enquires to establish the full circumstances".
