A total of 71 people have signed up to a stem cell register following an event to find donors for a Jersey man.

The Friends of Anthony Nolan Jersey hosted the event on Father's Day in the hopes of finding a match for islander Tony Ferreira.

Seven years ago, Mr Ferreira was diagnosed with Sezary Syndrome, a form of blood cancer which affects the skin.

His wife Osvalda Ferreira said she was "very grateful for everyone that came forward" at the event.

'Overwhelming support'

She said: "Our hope increases because there is more chance of us finding Tony a donor and we've been waiting for such a long time.

"Hopefully this time we will find it, but it's a good feeling.

"It's never a waste - if not for Tony, in future it can be for someone else."
