Brockham bonfire to go ahead despite flooding

One of the South East's biggest bonfire nights is going ahead on Saturday evening despite flooding.

The organisers of Brockham bonfire near Dorking said they were "confident" that the main entrance to the site from the A25 would "not be flooded".

However, Brockham Parish Council warned that car parks to the south of the village were flooded and some footpaths may be closed.

The council said on its website that parking would be limited, and encouraged visitors to park in Dorking and walk or take a bus to Brockham.

"Help us make it a bonfire night to remember despite the challenges we have tackled this week," the council said on its website.

Organisers urged visitors to be generous with their donations and "eat lots of bonfire refreshments".

They said the weather forecast for Saturday evening was looking "encouraging".

Light rain and winds are predicted.
