Two police officers have pleaded not guilty to beating a man in Exeter.

PCs Emmit Wookey, 30, and Liam Dunn, 27, from Devon and Cornwall Police, denied one charge each at Bristol Magistrates' Court of assault by beating.

It is alleged PC Wookey, of Lympstone, and PC Dunn, of Crediton, assaulted Neil Omari-Cole on 19 March.

The pair were charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Both were released by the court on unconditional bail.

The watchdog previously said the charges followed the stop-and-search of a man on New North Road.

The force referred a complaint about the officers to the IOPC, which launched an investigation.

The Crown Prosecution Service then authorised charges.
