Why are Dingwall's festive lights twinkling in February?

A Highland town's festive lights are finally being switched off and taken down after their removal was delayed by a broken leg.

Dingwall Community Council puts the display up in the town's High Street with help from local volunteers.

Their removal at the end of the festive period was delayed after one of the two people who usually takes them down broke his leg, while the other has work commitments in Ireland.

But Jack Shepherd, who was injured in December, said they would be removed on Friday with the use of a cherry picker lift.

The festive lights are a popular addition to Dingwall's high street around Christmas.

Mr Shepherd said: "Unfortunately, the lights are still lit because we have just not been able to get access to them.

"I broke my leg in December and that has put me out of action for the last few weeks.

"The other person who helps with the lights, has been seconded to a job in Belfast, so isn't available at this time."
