Murder arrest over death of woman

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died in Coventry.

The 50-year-old victim was found by police with serious injuries at a property on Long Close Avenue at about 20:30 GMT on Wednesday.

She was confirmed dead a short time later.

A man, 57, who was understood to be known to the woman, was being questioned by officers, West Midlands Police said.

The address was cordoned off by police and the force said its investigation was still in its early stages and called for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Insp Michelle Cordell said: "A woman has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those impacted by her passing.

"We understand that it will be shocking and distressing for the community and we will continue to have a police presence and offer our support in the area over the coming days."
