A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after two pedestrians were hit by a car just after midnight on New Year's Day.

A 23-year-old man was struck by the car at the junction of Regent's Park Road and Primrose Hill Road, but was only slightly injured.

Then a second man, 59, was hit a short distance away at the junction of Primrose Hill Road and King Henry's Road. He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as non-life changing.

The Met Police said: "An investigation is under way. This is not being treated as a terrorist incident."

The force said officers in the area as part of the New Year's Eve policing operation found the car at the junction of Primrose Hill Road and King Henry's Road.

A police spokesperson said: "The driver, a 40-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm and possession of controlled drugs."
