Police called to 'house party gone wrong'

A resident estimated that "hundreds" of people were in the street following the house party

Police were called after "hundreds" of people spilled onto a residential street following a "house party gone wrong".

Cambridgeshire Police said it was called to an address on Water Street in the Chesterton area of Cambridge at about 20:15 BST on Friday.

Officers said there were about 60 people outside the house and about 100 more inside the property. They said the disturbance was "dispersed fairly quickly" by 22:30 with no arrests.

However, a local resident, who wishes to stay anonymous, estimated there were at least 300 attendees and said police were present until about midnight.

The resident became aware of noise from the party at about 19:30 and said it "resembled a football crowd".

They said they became aware something unusual was happening when "more and more young people were turning up on scooters and being dropped off by taxis" and then noticed "blue lights flashing".

A large police presence was required to disperse the crowd

According to the resident, there was anti-social behaviour including shouting, bottle throwing and people urinating in the street.

They said that when they approached one of the "young people" in the street about what was going on - they were told that it was "a house party gone wrong".

The resident added the incident was "quite worrying and scary" for vulnerable people living in the area.

A total of 12 police units attended the scene, including dog handlers.

Despite the size of the crowd, police said no arrests were made
