A teenager has been arrested after a boy was hit by a car.

Police were called to the Leeds Road area in Nelson at about 16:00 BST on Wednesday after a Ford Focus was seen driving "antisocially".

A 12-year-old boy was hit by the car before it crashed on Southfield Street, after being pursued, officers said.

Lancashire Police said he is in hospital and have arrested a 16-year-old boy who is currently in custody.

After being followed onto Barkerhouse Road and then on to Southfield Street, where the car crashed, the driver and a passenger ran from the vehicle, police said.

The 16-year-old boy who was arrested was held on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.

Anyone with any information is being urged to get in touch with the force.
