More than £1.85m awarded to district projects

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has approved funding for nine projects

More than £1.85m of funding has been approved for infrastructure projects in and around Stratford-upon-Avon.

Improvements to facilities at Alcester Academy, resurfacing of part of Stratford Greenway and flood management schemes were among the projects granted a share of the money.

Fifteen proposals were submitted to Stratford-on-Avon District Council and nine were chosen during its cabinet meeting on Monday.

John Careford, the council's head of development, said the authority had focused on priority areas and ensured every pound spent "delivered maximum benefit" to the communiy.

The project at Alcester Academy will include improvements to the sports field, the council said, which received £102,248 of funding.

The Stratford Greenway's resurfacing, which was awarded £660,000, will focus on the section between Long Marston and Milcote Road, according to the authority.

Funding was also approved for natural flood management schemes in Shipston-on-Stour, Wellesbourne and Alcester.

The council said the money has been allocated from the strategic community infrastructure levy (CIL) – money raised through charges levied by local authorities on new developments.
