Port offers internship with hydrogen firm

An internship with a firm investigating the use of hydrogen technology in the island's maritime industry is being offered by the Ports of Jersey (PoJ).
It said the internship with OceansLab, a French firm run by yachtsman Phil Sharp, would be offered to a Jersey student or early career professional.
OceansLab last year partnered with the PoJ and the Government of Jersey to investigate the use of hydrogen on port infrastructure and vessels such as ferries, dredgers and cargo ships.
The PoJ said the two-month paid internship would be based at the OceanLab headquarters in La Rochelle, France.
Sustainable travel
The successful internship candidate would gain real-world experience in hydrogen technologies, such as fuel cells, hydrogen production, storage and usage within the marine sector, said the PoJ.
Matt Thomas, chief executive of the PoJ, said the research into hydrogen was a "step towards a zero-emissions marine industry".
"Our main role is to keep islanders connected with the rest of the world but it’s also our responsibility to work towards sustainable, decarbonised travel," he said.
