Murder charge after death of man, 94, in hospital

A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 94-year-old man who was found with serious injuries in his home.

Harold Monk died in hospital on Friday evening after he was discovered by officers on Thursday at an address off Birches Barn Road in Bradmore, Wolverhampton, West Midlands Police said.

Paul Topham, 45, of Palmerston Road, Birmingham, was charged with murder and burglary and appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Saturday, the force added.

Det Insp Phil Poole said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Monk's death.

"We understand that people will be concerned - however we want to reassure everyone in the area that we believe this was an isolated incident," he added.
