A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman who was found with serious head injuries.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she was found on Keighley Road in Illingworth, near Halifax, just after 13:30 BST on Wednesday, West Yorkshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said the scene remained cordoned off on Thursday.

Officers said a 40-year-old man from Halifax has been arrested and remains in custody.

Det Ch Insp Tom Levitt said police were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the death.

"Clearly any such incident will cause shock in communities and officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area today and speaking with community partners," he said.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
