Council gets £750k to enhance Brixham harbourside

Residents and businesses are encouraged to view the proposals for Brixham and share ideas

Brixham residents and visitors are set to benefit from £750,000 of improvements to the harbourside.
Torbay Council and Brixham Town Council have been working on ideas that will make Brixham harbour an even more attractive and vibrant place, officials said.
Until 21 February, residents and businesses, particularly those based in Brixham, can view the proposals and share any other ideas they may have.
Part of the government grant funding that Torbay Council secured through the Levelling Up Partnership was being used to fund the improvements, officials said.
Ideas that have already been shared publicly are:
Installing new 600 litre solar smart compacting bins that will prevent bins from overflowing and reduce the amount of street clutter
Mounting about 250m (820ft) of LED festoon lighting around the harbour
Replacing seating and benches and adding seasonal feature planting, such as hanging baskets
Improving access and public safety around the harbour and fishing port
Providing safe launching, landing and mooring facilities for paddleboard and kayak users
Improving way-finding and directional signage to enhance visitors' experiences
Repainting harbour railings, pillars, lamp posts and the Quay Market structure
'Further enhance the area'
Chris Lewis, deputy leader and cabinet member for place development and economic growth at Torbay Council, said: "Our bay-wide regeneration and improvement programme really starts to gather momentum in 2025.
"This year will be the year that Brixham residents get to be immersed in our exciting transformation story.
"Brixham is already a vibrant and welcoming place, and we hope the £750,000 of public realm improvements will further enhance the area for residents and visitors.
"We've been working closely with Brixham Town Council to develop the proposals, which we are excited to share... we hope the community take the time to look at the ideas and perhaps even suggest some ideas for the future."
