More than 20 pop-up performances took place on Saturday to celebrate the transformation of a historic city street.

Grey Street, in Newcastle city centre, has seen widened footpaths, inscribed seating and new planters as part of a regeneration project.

Councillor Karen Kilgour, leader of Newcastle City Council, said they were looking forward to seeing people enjoy the transformed area.

The event, organised by NE1 and the local authority, included performances from opera singers, ballet dancers, musicians and mime artists.

Kilgour said: "We can't wait to see both local people and visitors to the city enjoying the newly transformed area, celebrating the work's completion and seeing how the changes contribute to the city’s sustainability and economic growth in the long term."
