A man has been charged after a replica firearm was seized in a town centre in Staffordshire.

Michael Jarvie, 50, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday, and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 18 August.

Officers said they were called to Barracks Road in Newcastle-under-Lyme just before 15:45 BST on Saturday after "a man threatened a group of people with a gun".
