M20 closure for contraflow to be removed
- Published
Parts of the M20 are set to close overnight as the Operation Brock contraflow system is removed.
The system, which has been in place on a 13-mile (20.9km) stretch of the road between Maidstone and Ashford since 11 July, is being deactivated overnight on Sunday.
It is a contingency measure due to the increased number of people expected to travel south towards the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel during the summer.
To safely remove the contraflow barriers, the London-bound carriageway will be closed from junction nine to eight, and the coastbound road will be shut between junctions seven and nine, from 21:00 BST on Sunday until 06:00 on Monday.
National Highways said signed diversion routes would be in place on the A20.
Once removed, both carriageways will reopen with three lanes and the national speed limit back in place.
Operation Brock sees lorries heading to Dover queue on one side of the M20, with the other carriageway operating as a contraflow.
