An investigation is under way after the death of a prisoner at a jail in Leicestershire.

Police received a report of an assault on an inmate at HMP Fosse Way at about 16:45 BST on 6 August.

Dennis Green, 42, was taken to hospital for treatment but died on 21 August.

Leicestershire Police said Damien Ward, 36, of HMP Fosse Way, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent the day after the attack and was due to appear in court on 22 September.

HMP Fosse Way is a Category C resettlement prison, which opened in 2023 and is operated by Serco.
