A council is to spend £700,000 on improving a road between two villages in East Yorkshire.

The upgrade to the carriageway and footpaths between Brandesburton and North Frodingham will include resurfacing and strengthening work, East Riding of Yorkshire Council said.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said the investment would benefit a road "that needs this work".

The road will be closed from 2 September for up to four weeks.

Diversion route

During the project, the edges of the road will be strengthened and kerbing work will take place at the North Frodingham end.

Traffic will be diverted via B1249 Main Street, B1249 Bridlington Balk, B1249 North Frodingham Road, B1249 Main Street, A165 Beverley Road, A165 Bridlington Road. A165 Brandesburton Roundabout, New Road, Main Street and Mill Lane.

Access to properties will be retained for residents and businesses, and for the emergency services, deliveries, post and waste collections.

The work will be carried out by the council’s road maintenance team.
