Gallery exhibition celebrates youth artwork

Oscar, 10, created chopping boards and a table with resin filled grooves

Artwork created by young people is on display at a professional gallery.

It follows workshops run by Level Two youth project in Felixstowe, with sculptures, paintings and photography installed at 142 Art Gallery in the Suffolk town.

Oscar, 10, was inspired to create chopping boards and a table with a blue resin river effect cut into the surface.

"I sanded it down, put a router through to make the shape and then put resin in it," he said, adding that he was excited to have it on display.

The exhibition called Identity has an open call for work from young people.

Level Two youth worker and project lead Megan Pilcher said: "We wanted to create a project that showcases the creativity and talent of young people in Felixstowe.

"The idea of removing luck from opportunities is a big ethos behind this - anyone can participate.

"We are so excited to host the gallery and welcome the community to see their amazing pieces."

All money raised will go directly to supporting Level Two’s young people and families.

Megan Pilcher said she was amazed by the quality of some of the work submitted

Thorn, 12, said it was great to support a group he loved going to for sessions on Saturdays.

"I'm hopefully going to start a business [making] masks, since I really enjoy making them," he said.

The exhibition at the Hamilton Road gallery runs until Wednesday, 7 August.
